Psalm 119:71 (CSB) - 71 It was good for me to be afflicted

So that I could learn your statutes.

PAIN OF SUFFERING
Suffering is painful because it violently takes away our earthly comforts.
Suffering can feel like a vicious cycle we will never get out of!
Genesis 50:20 (CSB) - You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result — the survival of many people.
The Profit in the Pain = Your suffering has purpose.
How do we keep our focus on the right things?

  1. Acknowledge the pain
  2. Shift your Internal Questions
  3. Look for “Many Lives”

PAIN OF RELATIONAL TENSION
We are wired to have expectations in every relationship.
It is when expectations are broken or unmet that the unity of the relationship begins to fracture.
Hosea 3:1 (CSB) - Then the Lord said to me, “Go again; show love to a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress,  just as the Lord loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”
The Profit in the Pain = Through radical grace and mercy, relationships can be restored.
If you want to restore a relationship, do these:

  1. Initiate the Pursuit
  2. Address the Breach with Honesty
  3. Pay the Price of Forgiveness
  4. Cultivate Long-Term Patience

Psalms 119:71 (CSB) - It was good for me to be afflicted so that I could learn your statutes.
These pains happen because we hit a wall.
That we learn about God
What we learn about ourselves
There are some things God cannot teach us in the place of comfort.
