Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. 2 Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven  and you are on earth, so let your words be few. 3 A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool.  4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.  5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it.  6 Do not let your mouth lead you into sin. And do not protest to the temple messenger, “My vow was a mistake.” Why should God be angry at what you say and destroy the work of your hands?  7 Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God.

Do we have accountability on us as worshippers?

God did not need the temple; his people did.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

So, it's great that we come, but how do we come?

How Do I Prepare for Worship?

  1. Watch Your Feet

Ecclesiastes 5:1a Guard your steps when you go to the house of God.

Hebrews 10:24–25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

“Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

  1. Open Your Ears

Ecclesiastes 5:1 … Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.

  1. Let Our Words Be Few

Ecclesiastes 5:2 2 Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. 3 A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool.

God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

  1. Keep Your Commitments

Ecclesiastes 5:4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it.

What have you told God you would do that you still haven't done?

Matthew 5:37 “All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”
