John 20:24–29 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Ever wonder why Jesus kept his scars?

Why Jesus Kept His Scars

1. His Scars Prove His Identity

Luke 20:25b "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it."

John 20:27 Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe."

Our scars don’t erase who we are.

2. His Scars Brought Us Healing

From Jewish law, BUT Jesus’ scourging was Roman punishment

BUT - Whether Jesus received 39 or many more lashes doesn’t change the theological meaning

Hosea 14:4 “I will heal their backsliding; I will love them freely, for my anger has turned away from him.”

Psalm 103:2–3 “Bless the Lord, O my soul… who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.”

3. His Scars Declare Victory!

Revelation 5:6 John sees: “Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing on the throne.”

John sees "a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain"

His Scars NO longer define his pain NOR defeat, but eternal victory.

So we go out in Jesus name… as
