4 Ways David Tuned His Heart
I. David’s Heart Had Focus

1 Samuel 16:7 "But the LORD said to Samuel, 'Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.'"

Psalm 119:97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day
Psalm 27:4 "One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple."
2 Peter 3:11  Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives

II. David’s Heart was SUBMITTED

1 Samuel 24:4-6  "And the men of David said to him, 'Here is the day of which the LORD said to you, "Behold, I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you."' Then David arose and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul's robe. And afterward David's heart struck him, because he had cut off a corner of Saul's robe. He said to his men, 'The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the LORD's anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the LORD's anointed.'"

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight 
III. David’s Heart was BROKEN 
Psalm 51:1-4,10 "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight... Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me" (, 10).    
Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise."
IV. David’s Heart WORSHIPPED
2 Samuel 6:14 — "And David danced before the LORD with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod."
Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
